Beauty in a Weed

“Keep your love of nature, for that is the true way to understand art more and more.”

~Vincent Van Gogh

Although this is a weed, I think it is a pretty flower.

What flowering weeds do you like?

Bad Hair Day

Today is May 1st and it has started off as a very rainy day. According to the forecast it is supposed to rain all week.  Isn’t April the rainy month?

During one of the clear moments I ventured out  with my cell phone to get some pictures of the wet flowers.

One of the pictures I captured was of a dandelion.  All of the feather like seeds were drenched and it reminded me of a really bad hair day I had some years ago when I got caught in the rain without my umbrella.

These dandelions are all over my yard.  Although they are annoying and make ones yard look unkept I still like them.

Side Street Sunday: In the Weeds (2)

This is the entryway that I alluded to in my previous post.  I have lived in this general area for many years and even went to the motor vehicle inspection station that is directly across the street and never noticed this before.  It did not hit my radar until I started to go this way to see my son.

I did a brief search to see what used to be here.  I imagined that it was some super rich family that once occupied this property. My thoughts could not have been further from the truth

As it turned out this is where they treated people who suffered from TB (tuberculosis).  It was called Sunny Rest aka the TB Sanitarium.  The facility was built in 1914 to accommodate 75 residence.

Per the article in the link, one of the main treatments for TB was phototherapy.  It is said that the patients would lounge under the big trees and enjoy the sun in hopes of bring cured.

I did get a picture of some of the trees and they are big.

The facility did not stay open for long as a bigger treatment center, Lakeland, was built in Blackwood NJ.

Future post will be of the prison of the old prison farm.

Side Street Sunday: In the Weeds (1)

Every week on my way to see my son I pass a very old brick entryway on Spring Road in Hammonton New Jersey. The entryway is almost fully covered in weeds and vines of various plants.

For part one of my Side Street Sunday post I want to share just a few of the weeds that I noticed. I have no idea what the names of the weeds are but I have always liked the first one and I thought the second two were interesting.

The next post will be on the entryway and some history on the location.

Side Street Sunday

Today for my first Side Street Sunday post I present to you a leaf, a fungus, a weed, and a piece of caution tape.  These items caught my eye as I walked round the lake looking for something different to photograph.

To see images from my prior visit just click here.

~

I liked the curl and shadow on this dried up leaf.

~~

This fungus caught my eye because it decided to grow around the vine.

~~~
I just liked the puffiness of this weed.
Hopefully nothing serious happened here.
THE DANDELION
I have always liked the Dandelion.  thought that is was no more than a weed that some people use in salads however the majority of people do everything to get them out of their yard.  I decide to check WebMD and see what they say.
According to them the Dandelion is an herb and has medicinal uses.
Once again I learned something new today.
Maro Photography-2
After I lefNew Brooklyn Lake Park  I went to my mother’s house and took some pictures of her flowers.  There is always a wide variety to choose from.
Although I used a Macro Lens I need to either learn to use properly or upgrade to another type as most of the pictures look the same as if it were taken with a regular kit lens.  But I like them anyway.
