Thru the grass…again

My niece, nephew and I ventured off to a little side road and came across this beach that was deserted.

I appears to be a place that only the locals go to when they want to be away from the vacation crowds.

Side Street Sunday: Liberty Park

It has been a while since I made a Side Street Sunday post.

My sister-in-law Traci and cousin Misty joined in on my venture today.  First we went to the Lamp Post Diner and had a very good breakfast.

Here is what I had to eat:

BREAKFAST!

BREAKFAST!

After breakfast we headed up the New Jersey Turnpike to Liberty Park.  I have lived in New Jersey for 46 of my almost 50 years and never went to see the Lady of Liberty and Justice (Statue of Liberty).  I felt that it was long over due.

After arriving at the park we purchased the ferry tickets for $18.  Immediately after the ticket window there is this structure that is a photographers dream.  The CRRNJ Terminal (Central Railroad of New Jersey).  I wish we were allowed in, as I could have stayed there for some time just photographing the structure and with all of its shadows and light.

So much history and lives passed through this terminal.

The terminal has been closed since 2012 after hurricane Sandy hit the east coast.

My First Bud

My first miniature rose bud in my Balcony Oasis.  I am so HAPPY to see that it truly survived.  This miniature rose was purchased at the beginning of spring and it was in the house.  It started to die and I thought it was a goner.  When the weather finally broke I put it outside and hoped that it would come back and it did!

I believe all of these were taken with the extension tube on.

(PS is anyone else have problems creating a gallery?  When I select tiled mosaic it comes up squared tiles in the preview and vice versa.)

Balcony Oasis – Part 3

I have been working on my Balcony Oasis over the last 2 weekends.  As you see there is not much space but I plan on getting as much on the balcony as I can.

I still need to do a few things before I can call it is finished.

The table and chairs need to be painted.  I am not sure if I want to leave them white or paint it red (I am leaning towards red).  I also need something to create different heights that will not take up much room.  Any suggestions?

I guess some of you may wonder why the styrofoam cup is in the picture; well it is because my grandson wanted it there since it is a plant that he grew in daycare.  He told me that he wanted it on the balcony with the other flowers.  How could I refuse?  I will have to get a proper container for his plant.

In Balcony Oasis 2, I mentioned that I wanted a plant that attracts butterflies.  I did purchase a plant called Dianthus which is supposed to bring the butterflies.  We shall see.

Leather and Fluff

These 2 photos are from a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo a few years ago.  They would have been perfect for a “Throw Back Thursday” post.

Frank Rizzo

Frank Rizzo was the a mayor of Philadelphia from 1972 – 1980.  From what I remember you either loved him or hated him and this was divided mainly on race lines. Click here for an article in the NY Times or his Facebook page that is providing some history or this larger than life man.

While at a stop sign I saw this man sizing up Mr. Rizzo.
