A day in the snow

Yesterday it snowed most of the day here in New Jersey. The kids wanted to go out and play in the snow so of course I let them and it was a perfect opportunity to take some pictures and practice aperture settings.  Although photos did not turn out in the quality that I wanted they were “ok”.  I still need more work.

Snow Snow and more Snow

Not really but we are prepared.

The landscapers at my job are gearing up for the coming snow (not any time soon I hope). The sand/salt mixture and some of the machinery has been deliveried and it is ready and waiting for snow.   I hope they have a long wait.

The weather is not showing signs that the beginning of winter is just a few days away. Today’s temperature is 58°F, which is warm considering the time of year for New Jersey weather.

For those that doubt, global warming is real.

Mother Nature is a @*&%^

Yes I said it “Mother Nature is a @*&%^”.

Today is officially the first day of spring.  I could not wait for this day as it meant warm weather and no more snow was in the forecast.

Well Mother Nature decided to play a few tricks with us this week.  Just a few days ago we did not need coast.  A light jacket or sweater was all one needed.  It truly felt like spring was here.

I planned on posting a few more flower pictures in honor of spring:

I did not plan on snow.  The news did state that there would be snow but we know just how wrong they can be at times.  So I chose not to believe.

Then I woke up this morning and what do you know it snowed.

What choice did I but to make the best of it.

On my lunch break I decided to take some pictures of the snow on the trees.  Other than christmas this is the only time that I like to see snow.  It makes the surroundings look like a winter wonderland.

A Blissful Moment

Photo 101 Assignment #4: Bliss

We finally got some “real” snow here in NJ.  Most of the business and schools were closed today except for my daughters job.  Since I was off and Arai did not have school I had the pleasure of having him for the day.  This young man is a handful and a half.  The only time he is still is when he is sleep and you have to fight him for that.

I decided to take him out and let him experience some snow.  Mom-mom could not find his gloves so I put a pair of socks on his hands to keep them a little dry.  How happy he was.

A few outakes

While out yesterday taking pictures for this weeks Word Press Photo Challenge: Depth (of Field) I also took some pictures just because.  Here are a couple of outtakes from the days shoot.

Just Ducking around

In the next set of photos I wanted the DOF effect on the swing to be more pronounced like the pictures posted yesterday.  It does show slightly on the last couple of swings but not enough for what I envisioned.

Edited using Snap Seed with Drama and HDR effects.

Our Blizzard

For the past couple of days the news stations predicted that we would get 6-12 inches of snow.  Well needless to say they were incorrect.

Here is a picture from balcony showing the snow drift.

72 days 19 hours 7 minutes 49 seconds

Just a few days ago I posted some pictures for the WP Photo Challenge: New at a lake by my job. Here is a Snowy perspective from the same lake taken today.

We received less than 2 inches of snow today and I realize that is not a lot compared to some other states but it is still enough for me to wish spring was here.

At the time of this post Spring is only 72 days 19 hours 7 minutes 49 seconds away.

Check out the Spring count down clock here.
