Mind Over Matter

The temperatures here in New Jersey are well below freezing and have been for a couple of days.

The temperature when I took this photo was 16°F and dropping. This young man has a strong mind since the cold does not seem to matter to him.

I can successfully do mind over matter with most things execpt the cold… just looking at him with shorts on made me feel even cooler than I already felt.

Alien Seed Pods 3

This seed pod is still morphing into something out of this world.  It now looks like shredded carrots.  I wonder what it will turn into?

Have you seen anything like this before?

Just a Bit of Attitude

I do not know why but I have a thing for bugs, insects and such.  My grandson Arai is aware of this so when every he sees a bug he calls me to take pictures of it.

Yesterday he saw a butterfly on my flowers and proceeded to tell me to come out “….Mom-mom come here there’s a white butterfly with a mole on it, hurry-up and be quite you don’t want to scare it…”.  He listens so well (when he wants to).

After this was taken he chose not to listen to his mother and was sent to “time-out”.  He was all attitude at that point.

But lucky for us, his attitudes do not last long.  Within 5 minutes we were back looking for more insects to photograph.

A Sign of Nobility

Last night I was chatting with Jason C. aka Opinionated Man from Harsh Realty (if you don’t know Jason go check him out) about the my post Yes the Kitchen Door and he informed me that a red door is a symbol of nobility to some Chinese.

Of course I loved the ideal of nobility and took it one step further and made it royalty.  So I said that my place is Robin’s Kingdom but thought it needs a better name.

Here are some of my choices: Robin’s Kingdom, Robin’s Oasis, Forchion Estate (pronounced fortune), but they just don’t have any pizzazz.

The yellow is covered and the door is now all red. I am still debating on this shade of red. It may get changed to a completely different color. We shall see.

I know it does not look like much now but in the future it will be gorgeous! I have plans on putting shutters on the windows, larger plants in the flower beds, changing the walkways so that they all match, having a great lawn, one that you could just lay on it (might be pushing it a bit).  I have huge dreams for my house and I want the name to match my dreams.

I am thinking of having a contest to name my Kingdom.  Not sure of the particulars yet but if/when I come up with something you will be the first to know.

Suggestion box is now open!!

Yesterday I went to the Lawnside NJ fireworks display.  They were celebrating Heritage Day (this is an old link but gives great information).  We did not attend the entire event, just the fireworks.

Here are a few examples of my attempts at capturing the burst of light in the sky.  I could not get the settings just right but I consider this a practice run since 4th of July is next weekend.

Sea of Yellow

Once again I do not know its name. Prior to the blooms it look a something from the succulent family. Now with a sea of yellow star flowers I am not sure.

They Came…

When I was in the apartment I created my Balcony Oasis and hoped that I could attract some butterflies.  Unfortunately they never came.

Well at my new home I am finding lots of interesting creatures.  Today I noticed some butterflies.  I was happy to see that they have finally came.

7 Days of Nature Challenge (6/7)

Mother Nature has thrown a tantrum

The calendar says that spring arrived on March 20 which was twenty days ago.  Now Mother Nature must not like us telling her when to start Spring so she had to let us know that she was was not finished with winter yet.  She blanketed part of the north-east United Sates with varying degrees of snow.

Here in NJ we got a bit more than a dusting but not too bad compared to what some got out in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Here are some pictures from my part of the world.

When will Spring actually arrive?
