They Came…

When I was in the apartment I created my Balcony Oasis and hoped that I could attract some butterflies.  Unfortunately they never came.

Well at my new home I am finding lots of interesting creatures.  Today I noticed some butterflies.  I was happy to see that they have finally came.

Garden Visitors

It seems that some of the caterpillars are loving my new flowerbeds. I hope these are the ones that turn into butterflies.

Do all caterpillars turn into butterflies?

When will they come?

I purchased a Dianthus plant and it has just bloomed like my miniature rose.  This plant is supposed to attract butterflies.

I am patiently awaiting some butterflies to appear in my Balcony Oasis.

Awaiting butterflies ...

Awaiting butterflies …

I forgot to add these pictures to the previous W.O.W Butterflies post.

This is what greeted us as we arrived at WOW (World of Wings).

I have already planned to go back so that I can see this art piece with some nice green grass reflecting on the wings.

I was not able to get a straight picture of the art piece due to the glare from the sun.

To I ventured to the northern part of NJ to visit WOW (World of Wings). They have an assortment of reptiles insects and butterflies.  Unfortunately the butterflies were not many due to an issue with the breeding but my sister-in-law Traci and I still enjoyed ourselves.

Today I will be posting the butterflies and in the days to come I will be posting the other interesting animals.

I just read an interesting fact about the African Moon Moth, the adults do not have a mouth.  So for their adult life, which only ast about a week, they do not eat.  They survive by living off the stored fat in their bodies.

Since he food that they eat is bananas and oranges I have also linked this to this weeks WP Photo Challenge: Orange.

Throw Back Thursday

When I lived in Arizona I visited the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix to view the Butterfly House.  There were quite a few varieties just politely flying around or blending in with the surrounding plants.

For the people who were wearing light-colored clothing the butterflies would land on them.  It seemed that they loved the brightness.

We were told by the staff that we could lore butterflies were ever we wanted by leaving trays of sugar-water and fruit laying out and they will be sure to come.

Here are just a few pictures of my visit in April of 2010.

Do you spot the butterfly that is blending in with the scenery?
