Today I Smiled

Today was a bit frustrating as I made an error at work dealing with others pay. The issue is resolved but I do not like making mistakes especially when it involves money and other people.

When I got home I regrouped by vegetating on the sofa watching some random TV show. Then my grandson handed me some mail. At first all I see is a bill then another bill, then there is this shiny square envelope with unfamiliar hand writing. When I turn it over I see it is from France! Then I smiled! It’s from Brian.

I met Brian here on WordPress about 3 years ago and I feel that if we were to ever meet in person we would be true friends.

Thank you Brian for making me smile and taking a bit of time out of your vacation to find this card for me.

If you haven’t already been to Brian’s blog go check it out and enjoy some of his travels with “Scotty”.

Thanks for visiting everyone!

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday – Meet me at the water pump..now!

What do you see when you look at this photo?  Does it make you think of possible stories about things that happened at the water pump many years ago?

Photo of the Day

Spring has finally sprung on the calendar, in the air and in my feelings.  I went to a local park and my mother’s house to take a few pictures, then went to a local store, Produce Junction, and bought a bouquet of colorful flowers.

It felt good to be out photographing again.  Looking at all the buds starting to form on trees, flowers on others and even some plants bursting through the soil just made me feel good today.

I can not wait till the spring warmth is really here.

What do you think?

Our Unfurled Flag

This mural “Our Unfurled Flag” was originally painted in 2001 as a showing of resilience after the events of 9/11. It is located on Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In more recent times the flag has been the object of disdain by some Americans due to the 3rd verse of the National Anthem and the killing of people of color by Police Officers and the appearance of acceptance by the court system  (if it even gets that far).

As children we are only taught the first 2 verses in school but there are 2 more verses which is not taught.  To be honest I did not know the other verses until Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the playing of the Anthem during a preseason football game.

“Complete version ofThe Star-Spangled Banner showing spelling and punctuation
from Francis Scott Key’s manuscript in the Maryland Historical Society collection.”

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bomb bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream,
‘Tis the star-spangled banner – O long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
