Lucky you. The mantises are beautifully purple like the plant. Our praying mantises are either green or brown.

I believe these are the first ones that I have seen this color. The green ones are common here. I now need to find a stick insect.

Great photos … are those eatable berries?

No it is not. From what I read all parts of it are poisonous the berries not as much as the stems and root but still poisonous. The most common name for the plant is pokeweed.

I would never make it stranded in the woods… I know very little about plants.

Indigo? How interesting. My family ran indigo plantations in India for two centuries before WWI. I’d never actually seen the plant. 🙂

I refer to them as indigo but it is really a Pokeweed plant (thanks to Google). I call it an indigo plant because my mother has always called them that.
Your family had done a lot of very interesting things.

Yes, indigo looks like a flower. Interesting that your mother should called it that.
My family? I think they were Gypsies. 😉

How lucky to see so many at one time. What a great post. I just had an encounter with a pregnant praying mantis. https://noelliesplace.com/2019/09/18/pregnant-praying-mantis/

That is so neat to see a pregnant praying mantis. I have not seen one yet.
