Eminent Domain
Here in the United States we have a thing called Eminent Domain, which means that the local, state, or federal government can take a portion or all of your property if they want/need it. Usually they will give you market value for your property but that usually is not enough.
Looking at this leaf it appears that nature also exercises Eminent Domain.

It is a simplified explanation but in the end if the need it they can take it.

Eminent domain? Wow. Didn’t know. But then the State pretty much does what it wants anywhere, right?

Yes it does! County, state and federal goverment can do what they will. It is not that simple there is a process but in the end they will more times then the lose.
