WP Photo Challenge: Transition

Yesterday was Thanksgiving here in the US.  It is a day that we are to give thanks for the blessings that we have receive in the past year.

This particular Thanksgiving was very rewarding.  We were able to mix and mingle with relatives that we have not seen in some time.  It was also a slightly bitter day at the same time.  We celebrated the life of my grandfather who would have been 100 years old this past February 22.  He transitioned to heaven almost 40 years ago at the hands of another over a rental dispute of less than $200.

The image below is of his 6 remaining children holding one of the 9  $1 dollar bills that was in his wallet on that fateful night and his shoes.

    Robin, what a sad and touching story. Transitions to heaven also involve transitions of our heart where tangible interactions become intangible memories. Well done and great take on the challenge. Blessings on you and your family from my heart to yours.

      Thank you Gale. Since I was only 9 when this happened most of my memories have transitioned as well. It was good to hear the stories of my grandfather.

    I just visited your blog for the first time, and was delighted and moved by it. I went back and read your “My Soul,” and was glad to see that you are cancer free. I too am a cancer survivor – six year survivor of invasive cervical cancer – so I know what you mean, and know how that experience changed my perspective on life. Best wishes from Anne

      Thank you Anne. If you are blessed to beat Cancer you still have to find internal strength to defeat the mental demons that may remain. Cancer tries to get you both mentally and physcially.

    A very moving photograph and story, Robin. Nine bucks and a pair of shoes.
    So your grandfather was from ’15. My grandfather was born in 1890… 25 years distance.
    What I always said: you’re such a kid…

    Do hang on to those relics and make sure your children and grandchildren know about this story. So they know where they come from.
