i actually prefer the B&W, the color is somehow a little distracting

Thanks Julz! I don’t see the distraction in the color one but do agree that the B&W is better

Gee, they’re both good. I think the B&W has a richer overall texture, but I also like the color composition of the other. Tough call. 🙂

Thanks Steven. That is why I also like the B&W better. The details in the “veins” is much stronger.

Thanks Joy. I think the b&w is better in thus case. More texture is shown.

There is more detail in the B&W but I am a nature lover and I love the color….

Thanks MLou. In this case the detail of the b&w wins out for me.

I definitely cannot choose between the two. I love glowing greens, but the details in the black and white are exquisite. I liked studying the photographs and drawing comparisons between the two. Great post!

The BW without question for me. Texture and contrast more striking and makes the picture “interesting.” The leaf here in BW reminds of pictures of elderly people close up in BW where we are drawn to the textures and lines in their skin. In colour we’d be talking more about blush of their skin and if they’re healthy– remove the colour and we talk about their lives.

Thank you Dale. I totally agree with you. BW on people makes you forget about their appearance but think about their lives. Have you checked out Joshi Daniels? He does great BW images of people. http://joshidaniel.com/

You did well as usual! 🙂
I insist, I prefer colour for nature. I remember the first photos I took in Africa as a child, (I was only granted B&W by my parents to try teeth on, and it was cheaper) black & white is very difficult to get proper contrasts in the “wilderness”. Unless you get a subject very close with a very defined background. Clear. Sky. 🙂

Thank you!!!!
I like both color and b&w in nature. I have a bit more to learn in the editing process and one day hope to get it perfect.
Do you have any if your old photos to share?

Ancient Indochina you mean? Yes. I’m slowly building up a process to go back posting. But before the last part of Ancient Indochina, I plan a post on “The streets of D.C.”

The streets of DC as in Washington DC?

Yep. The capital of the Empire! 😇

I have not been to DC since the sixth grade. It is a shame since it is less than 3 hours from NJ. I look forward to reading your post.

Do. Go to DC. I found it a very pretty “small town”. 🙂

It is in my list but everytime I begin to go through my to do list something happens. But this I will do for sure.

To-do lists are meant to be forgotten, lost, twisted around, and so forth and so on. But DC is good. And according to daughter #2 beautiful in the fall. As in most the Eastern seaboard. As for lodging, we went for Airbb’nb. Very decent and affordable. 🙂

Bravo Robin. You have the heart of a poet. Both photos are dramatic but I prefer the monochrome black and white. In the B&W photo the shadowy reflection of the leaf turns itself into an artistic spectre separate but still a part of the real leaf. Thank you for sharing. Enjoy the day.

The B&W photo is my favorite, although I like the color one also. The color one actually looks “colorized” to me! (Colorize was the technique used in old photos and movies, where color was added to the image later). But the B&W one, without the distraction of color, brings out the contrast and thus the details of the leaf. The edge of the leaf appears to have an outline, which is more prominent in the B&W photo.
