Elegant for sure. Beautiful.
Great shot, so regal.
I love herons. They are elegant indeed, until the take off, when, for a moment, they’re all gangly and flappy for a second or so until they’re airborne, when once again they regain their elegance, the large wingspan allowing slow beats and long glides until the next fishing spot is reached.
I often think of them as prehistoric throwbacks.
They’re wily old things too, they usually see and hear me coming before I get close, and around where I ride there’s often a few of them dotted along the reservoir banks like sentries, warning each other and other birds of approaching outsiders.
